Un reconocimiento global al liderazgo, la innovación y el impacto económico de las mujeres
Every November 19th, the world celebrates the International Women’s Entrepreneurship Day, a date created to highlight the fundamental role women play in the global economy, recognize their contributions, and reduce the gender gap in entrepreneurship. This initiative was established in 2014 under the leadership of the United Nations and the Women’s Entrepreneurship Day Organization (WEDO), with the purpose of promoting policies, programs, and opportunities that support women in the creation and growth of their businesses.
The importance of Women’s Entrepreneurship Day
Women entrepreneurs represent a transformative force in the modern economy. They contribute to local development, generate employment, drive innovation, and strengthen the business ecosystem across all sectors. However, they also face structural challenges such as limited access to financing, unequal opportunities, lower representation in technological sectors, and cultural barriers.
This date serves to:
- Highlight their achievements and challenges
- Promote policies that reduce the gender gap
- Inspire new generations of women to become entrepreneurs
- Foster support networks, mentorship, and training programs
- Recognize the global economic impact of women-led entrepreneurship
Figures that reflect their impact
📊 More than 252 million women are active entrepreneurs worldwide, according to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM).
📈 In Latin America, the rate of female entrepreneurship is among the highest in the world, with sustained growth over the last 10 years.
💼 Women entrepreneurs generate millions of direct and indirect jobs, boosting regional economic development.
🚀 Despite this, only 2% of global venture capital goes to startups led by women, highlighting the need to continue promoting equity initiatives.
🏛️ The UN states that closing the gender gap in entrepreneurship could add up to $5 trillion to the global GDP.
These figures show an immense potential—and an unprecedented economic opportunity—if support mechanisms and access to capital for women entrepreneurs are strengthened.
Why is it important to celebrate it?
Women’s Entrepreneurship Day is not just a commemorative date: it is a global movement seeking to change realities. Celebrating it means:
✨ Recognizing the effort and resilience of millions of women who build businesses from the ground up.
✨ Generating conversations about equity, financing, education, and opportunities.
✨ Encouraging more women to access high-growth sectors such as technology, AI, science, and finance.
✨ Strengthening the sense of community, empowerment, and collaboration.
It is a call for institutions, governments, chambers of commerce, and business organizations to join efforts in creating environments where women can build without limits.
A call to action
The world’s economic future depends on the talent, vision, and innovation of women. Celebrating this day means recognizing their essential role and committing to continue creating spaces that foster their leadership.
From the U.S. Hispanic Women’s Chamber of Commerce, we reaffirm our mission:
to support, highlight, and uplift all women entrepreneurs who are transforming the present and building the future.
Because when a woman becomes an entrepreneur, an entire community moves forward.
