One year after arriving in the United States, Yamilet Rivas founded the only U.S. Hispanic Women’s Chamber of Commerce at the national level in the country.
From the board of directors to every individual member, the U.S. Hispanic Women’s Chamber of Commerce functions because everyone chooses to be there. That level of voluntary commitment cannot be purchased and is, in itself, the most honest governance model that exists.
To give that model the structure it deserved, Yamilet brought the U.S. Hispanic Women’s Chamber of Commerce business case to Harvard Business School as part of a female leadership program. The Chamber successfully achieved the official recognition of October 2nd as Hispanic Women’s Day at multiple levels of government in the United States. In recognition of this achievement, Senator Rick Scott requested that a flag be flown over the U.S. Capitol in the name of Yamilet Rivas. For someone who arrived in this country as an immigrant, receiving such an honor from the federal government of the United States represents something that goes far beyond any title.
Yamilet is the CEO of TechsMIA, the voice of the Hispanic entrepreneurial community as the host of the Strive 305 en Español podcast, and co-founder of the small business incubator at The Hub, in collaboration with Miami-Dade County.
